Abstract
764,882. Two-stroke engine construction; cooling cylinders. HORST, H. VAN DER. Jan. 28, 1955 [Jan. 30, 1954], No. 2717/55. Class 7 (2). A cylinder 1 or cylinders are removable from an engine frame 16 together with opposed pistons 4 and connecting rods 10 upon dismantling big-end connections 18 to crankshafts 12 at the cylinder ends and retracting the pistons 4 and rods 10 substantially within the or each cylinder. Jacket sections 21, 22 are removable to allow cylinder extraction. Cylinder fins 3 are cooled by charge air passing from a frame duct 37 to inlet ports 6, and cylinder fins 2 and exhaust trunking 30 by air blown from a frame duct 38 to an outlet duct 28 by a fan (not shown). There is a fuel injector 32. The engine may be mounted beneath a vehicle floor.
