Abstract
745,194. Two-stroke engines; turning. gear. OSPELT, G. Dec. 22. 1953 [Dec. 29, 1952], No. 35626/53. Classes 7(2), and 7(5) In an upright V-engihe having auxiliary parts such as the exhaust manifolds 14, Starter 15, lubricating oil pump and filter 17 and the engine suspension means 16. attached to the outer sides of the crank- 'case 13, the several mounting surfaces for the attachment of the said parts are arranged in a single plane on each side of the crankcase so that all the mounting surfaces on each 'side can be machined together. As shown the mounting surfaces 18, 19, for the exhaust manifold 14 and starter 15 are arranged in a plane 11, and the mounting surfaces 20, 21, for the engine suspension means 16 and oil cooler and filter 17 are arranged in a plane 12, the planes 11, 12, being preferably equally inclined at an angle # to the plane of symmetry of the engine which is smaller than the angle of inclination # of each bank of cylinders 1, 2. The top edges 22, 23 of the crankcase are also machined off level with the planes 11, 12 and the exhaust ducts 26 are inclined so that they emerge approximately at right angles to the manifold mounting surface 18. The engine is shown mounted on vehicle frame members 29, 30 through rubber blocks 31 attached to members 16 which at the front of the engine are arranged symmetrically on each side of the crankcase above the level of the crankshaft, the rear suspension members being approximately at the level of the crankshaft. A scavenging air blower 4 with a filter 5. a fuel injection pump 6; and preferably the dynamo, are mounted in the space between the cylinder banks.
