235,487. Typograph Ges., and Uhthoff, E. Jan. 6, 1925. Clamping matrices. -In machines having matrices guided on wires, the front lineclamping jaw d, Fig. 1, instead of being fixed, as hitherto, is movable out of the path of the matrix line, in order to permit of circulation of the matrices. The jaw d is carried by an arm e loosely mounted on the rocking spindle b, that carries the rear jaw c. The arm e is normally locked to the spindle by a spring-pressed key g, Fig. 2, which engages a groove in the spindle. After the casting, the spindle is rocked to remove the jaws from the line, and a fixed stop k engages a notch i in the key g, which is thereby withdrawn, so that the arm e is returned to normal position by a spring l.
