Spindles and the like, treating.-A crank or like pin is ground without removal from the crank by a grinding-disc which is mounted, with its operating means, on an arm pivotally connected to the crank-pin. As applied to grinding a coupling-pin of a locomotive, the wheels 1 are supported in bearings 2 and are driven by a belt 6 and a motor 5. The pin pivotally supports an arm 7, the outer end of which is supported by cords 9, and on the arm is a piece 11 to which is adjustably secured a link 12. The link 12: carries a guide 13, adjustable in height by screws 14, and upon the guide is a piece 17, adjustable horizontally by a. screw 16 and carrying a motor 19 on the spindle of which is a grinding-wheel 20. In operation, the grinding-wheel is moved axially of the crank-pin by the screw 16. In a modification, the link carries a motor, on the shaft of which is mounted an arm carrying the grinding-wheel, which is driven from the motor by a belt provided with a tensioning device comprising an eccentric mounted loosely on the motor shaft.
