Abstract

244,297. Dehn, F. B., (Liberty Screw Products Co.). Feb. 9, 1925. Rollers, rods, and the like, treating.- Cylindrical articles, for example, rollers or piston-pins, are ground between two grinding wheels 25, 30 mounted coaxially and driven in opposite directions and at different speeds. The wheel 25 is carried by a spider 40 having slight axial play on, but rotatable with a shaft 21 supported in a sleeve 24, which is adjustable axially in a head 12 adjustable vertically on the machine frame 10. The wheel 30 is carried by a hollow shaft 27 mounted in bearings 11 on the frame. The work 36 is carried by a cage 35 which is located between the grinding-wheels, and is rotatably mounted on a pin 34 adjustably carried by a head 32 and eccentric to a fixed rod 31 carrying the head; the rod passes through the shaft 27 and is secured by a pin 33. The rollers 36 are so arranged as to make a small angle with radii of the carrier 35. Powdered grinding-material may be used with the wheels; the pressure of the wheel 25 on the work may be increased by weights on the spindle.
