Abstract

357,188. Centreless grinding. WHITE, A. E., 5, Quality Court, Chancery Lane, London.-(Cincinnati Grinders, Inc. ; 3058, South Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A.) June 18, 1930, No. 18665. [Class 60.] A centreless grinding machine for treating work having parts of different diameters, for example, grinding reduced ends on cylindrical work-pieces 28, consists of a bed 10 upon which are mounted a grinding wheel 13 and a regulating wheel 18 adjustable respectively by screws to compensate for wear of the wheel and for diameter of the work. In bearings 19, 20 is mounted a drum 22 having secured on its periphery a number of brackets 24 provided on their upper surfaces with inclined work supports 26 with supplemental slightly raised portions 27. The work-pieces rest on the brackets and the drum is of such diameter, and is so positioned, as, during its rotation, to carry the portions 27 and the ends of the work-pieces through the grinding throat. The outer ends of the workpieces are supported by adjustable abutments 38 mounted in a flange 37 of the drum; the workpieces, when ground, fall into a basket resting on a bracket opening into a reservoir for cooling fluid.
