391,243. Centreless grinding. MORTIMER, S. J., EVANS, W. A. W., (trading as MORTIMER & CO., S. J.), 5, St. George's Street, Northampton, and POLLARD & CO. (BEARINGS), Ltd., F., Notting- ham Road, Leicester. Nov. 24,1931, No. 32534. [Class 60.] Disc apparatus.-Apparatus for grinding parallel or tapered rollers, pins, &c. by the centreless method, and constructed as an attachment for use on a centre type or other grinding- machine having a grinding-wheel 1 carried by a head 2 on a base 3, comprises a controlwheel 5 mounted on a horizontal spindle 6 in a housing 13, and driven, through a universally jointed shaft 12 from a gear-box 10. The housing 13 is supported by a horizontal pivot 15 on a bracket 14, and may be adjusted about the pivot by a screw 16 and looked by a nut 15a on the pivot, so that the wheel 5 may be set to give feed to the work. The bracket 14 rests on a baseplate 25 and is mounted to turn thereon on a vertical pivot 18 intersected by the pivot 15, and to be adjusted about the pivot by a slotted lug 19a and a screw 19. The baseplate 25 is movable in guides 25a on a bed 20, towards and from the grinding-wheel 1, by a screw 26, and may be looked in adjusted position by clamp plates 27, 28. The work-rest is carried by a platen 29 adjustable on the bed 20 towards and from the grinding-wheel by a screw 30, and is locked by a screw 35, and the rest 32 is removably mounted in a block 31 removably mounted on the platen, which also carries guide members 32a for the work ; shoots 33 for feeding and removing the work are provided on the platen. The gear-box 10 is adjustable on the bed 20 by screws 10d and slots 10c to suit the adjustment of the control wheel about the pivot 18 for grinding tapered work. The bed 20 is angularly adjustable about a pivot 23 on the main slide 4 of the machine and is locked in adjusted position by clamp plates 21, 22 ; the slide 4 may be traversed during grinding. In a modification, the pivot 18 is omitted, the adjustment of the control wheel about the horizontal pivot 15 only being provided. According to the Provisional Specification, the apparatus also may be constructed as a complete machine, as well as in the form of an attachment.
