Abstract
249,299. Dronsfield, J. Feb. 28, 1925. Rollers, treating.-A leather or other covered roller is ground and trued by a traversing grinding-wheel b and is mounted in driven chucks carried respectively by a fixed headstock d, and a movable headstock e mounted on a bed c pivoted to the machine frame a and adjustable towards or from the grinding-wheel by a screw c<2>. The fixed headstock comprises a casing c<8> carrying a chuck-supporting spindle c<5> abutting on a ball c<6> and driven by gears c<3>, c<4> from a shaft f mounted in the bed c. The movable headstock is adjustable along the bed c and comprises a casing e' carrying a chuck-supporting spindle e<5> driven from the shaft f by gears e<3>, e<4>. The spindle e<5> has at its inner end a ball and cup connection e<7> e<8> with a spindle e<9> slidable in a sleeve e<11> secured to the casing e<1>, a spring e<12> pressing the spindle outwards. In order to insert the work, the spindle e<5> is retracted by operation of a handle, which, in conjunction with cam-surfaces e<15>, e<16>, moves the spindle axially. For treating large diameter rollers more than two gears are employed in each headstock.
