'[Class 60] In a centreless grinding machine for treating work in bar form, means is provided for supporting the work as it is fed into and passes out of the grinding throat. The work d, during grinding, is supported on the inclined upper surface of a rest e lying between the grinding-wheel f and the control wheel g and forming with the operative surfaces of the wheels, the grinding throat. The means for supporting the work outside the grinding throat comprises a series of pairs of rollers a, b with bevelled faces, the axes of the rollers being set so that a V-throat is formed, as shown by the dotted lines c, and the lower roller a of each pair being set so that its work-engaging line is parallel to the work-engaging surface of the rest e. The upper roller b is set so that its work-engaging line coincides substantially with the contour of the control wheel g where it engages the work, and the rollers b are carried on a base h which moves with the control wheel head slide, the control wheel being adjustable into line with the roller faces as described above. The rollers a and the blade e are mounted on a platform i slidable by rack gearing i<1> on the base h at an angle to maintain the V-throat angle c when the rollers are adjusted to suit the diameter of the work d ; the outer ends of the base h are supported by rollers on members j. In machines having the grinding- wheel, or the grinding and control wheels adjustable, the base h is mounted accordingly.
