Abstract
435,897. Grinding crank-pins &c. GOTTI, E., 106A, Burgstrasse, St. Gall, Switzerland. Nov. 19, 1934, No. 33277. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1933. [Class 60] Apparatus for grinding crank - pins by means of an endless abrasive belt comprises two arms 1, 2 pivotally connected by a pin 3 on which the arm 2 is pivoted, and which is adjustably secured by a slot 6 and nut 5 to the arm 1. The arm 1 carries a steel &c. abutment member 12 and guide blocks 13 adjustably secured by bolts 11 and a slot 10 in the arm, the crank-pin 14 being engaged by the parts 12, 13 during grinding. The arm 1 also carries an adjustable bracket 15 formed with a handle 17 and carrying a screw 18 which contacts with the arm 2 to limit the approach of the arms ; the arm 2 also carries a handle 19. On the arm 2 is the abrasive belt 20 running over pulleys 21, 22, the pulley 21 being adjustable by a screw 25 to tension the belt, and the pulley 22 being driven by an electric motor 27, mounted on the arm 2. The belt passes over a table 30 on the arm 2 and is pressed thereby against the work, the device being held by the handles 17, 19 and a slot 32, which forms a hand grip ; an adjustable weight 28 on an arm 28 balances the device and a stop 39, or a stop 40 is provided to prevent tipping of the device sideways. In a modification, the arm 1 has formed thereon, or secured thereto, a broad flat guide-plate extending rearwardly and adapted to rest on a guide rod arranged parallel to the crank-pin on supports clamped to the bed of the machine in which the crankshaft is supported and rotated. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the application to grinding cams or the like, and further an arrangement wherein the pulley 22 is driven by a belt from the motor 27, or wherein the pulley is driven through a flexible shaft from a motor remote from the apparatus. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
