Abstract
227,424. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of MacGahan, P.). Jan. 8, 1924, [Convention date]. Magnets.-A compound strip having elements of different coefficients of expansion so that its distortion is proportional to temperature changes, has at least one element a permanent magnet. The invention is applicable to electrical instruments, meters, relays and magnets. As shown in Fig. 1, a moving coil is located between polepieces 3 connected by a compound strip 5, 6 the field in the gap varying with temperature changes and in a weaker or stronger sense depending upon whether the strip 5 has a higher or lower coefficient of expansion than the strip 6. Fig. 2 shows an application of the invention to a brake magnet 4 in an instrument or meter.
