Abstract

Electromagnetic current' meters.- An electric measuring - dnstrument, such as an ammeter, comprises a short bar magnet c secured to the main plate a of the instrument, a coil h of stiff wire adjustably secured alongside it, and an iron armature m located in or at one of the open ends of the coil and mounted on an arbor n carrying an index finger o. The bar magnet c is clipped at its ends and sides by tongues b, d pressed up from the rear side of the plate a, the front side being arranged as a scale. A metal bridge e, secured to the rear side of the plate a, carries a pair of terminal posts f, each provided with a transverse hole to receive the ends g of the coils h, which are adjustably secured between the heads i of the posts and washers j. To prevent rotation of the posts their heads are of square section, or one side may be made flat, to co-operate with the adjacent portion of the bridge e from which they are insulated by strips k and washers l. The instrument can be mounted in an iron case p.
