Abstract
490,901. Current and volt meters. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 19, 1938, No. 1781. Convention date, Sept. 20, 1937. [Class 37] A differential instrument comprises two field coils 42, 50 adjustably arranged in fan shape upon a frame 16, a pointer 76 pivoted at the intersection of the coil axes, and a resistor 54 mounted on an insulating strip 52 secured to the coil adjusting brackets 36, 46, the resistor being connected in series with one of the field coils. The terminals 6, 8 are insulated from the back-plate 22, terminal 6 being connected to one end of each coil through strip 29, rivet 18 and the frame 16. The other end of coil 50 is connected to resistor 54, finger 60, and is then earthed through the back-plate 22, the remaining connection from coil 40 being to terminal 8 by way of parts 62, 64. An insulating strip 26 on the back-plate is formed into a loop between the terminals 6, 8. The adjusting bracket 36 is of soft-iron and is connected to the frame 16 by a nut 38 and wide slot 40, a similar adjustment being possible with bracket 46 which is constructed of brass. The dial plate 67 is secured by posts 69 connected to lugs 66 on the frame 16, a further lug 68 providing the pivot bearing for the pointer movement.
