Oscillographs.-A moving- iron oscillograph comprises two magnetic reed members forming an air-gap at their free extremities, a strong unidirectional field surrounding the extremities, and means for magnifying the relative movement of the free ends of the reeds on energization of the magnetic circuit by the current to be measured. As shown, Figs. 1, 2, the reeds 1, 2 are formed as extensions to a laminated core 5 of low hysteresis loss and high resistance, a powerful field across the gap 6 being produced by magnet poles 7, 8. A mirror 11 is floated on knife-edges 9, 10 mounted on the reeds. A high resistance is necessary in circuit with the energized coil 4, and preferably a thermionic valve having five or fewer electrodes is employed, the coil 4 being directly connected in the anode circuit. The oscillograph may be transformer coupled or connected through impedances to the valve circuit. More than one stage of amplification may be provided.
