Abstract
514,254. Electric and magnetic brakes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and TILSTONE, G. March 31, 1938, No. 9872. [Class 103 (i)] [Also in Groups XXXVI and XXXV] A clip-on magnetic shunt for use in electromagnetic instruments and meters comprises a strip of magnetic material 1 with its ends 2 curled over to form the clipping portions and with one or more folds or corrugations 3 in its intermediate portion so as to allow the ends to yield and spring over the edges of the magnet limbs. The shunt may be applied to the poles of a permanent magnet 4 serving as a braking magnet of a watt-hour meter and may have a particular temperature co-efficient of permeability for compensating for temperature errors. The shunt may be shaped so as to conform with magnet limbs which are not in line.
