Abstract
222,051. Saoutchik, J. April 9, 1924. Hoods and opening tops.-The conversion of a closed automobile to an open one and vice versa is facilitated by the provision, behind the driver's seat, of two pillars 11, Fig. 3, pivoted at 12 to the body and adapted to fold down into a transverse casing therein covered by a sliding table 16, Figs. 5 and 9. Each pillar may be formed in two parts' a, b, Fig. 3, hinged together longitudinally at c, one part a being adapted to fold on to the other part b in the inoperative position and serving to guide a transverse partition in the operative position. The table 16, which is connected to the body by toggle links, fits between the pillars when they are raised and holds them in that position. Sliding windows in the doors of the vehicle are adapted to be covered by a removable member 21, Fig. 7, when in the inoperative position. The invention is described as applied to a hood, the front portion of which comprises inwardly folding side members.
