Abstract

221,245. Symonds, S. May 4, 1923. Rotary cylindrical valves; seats. - A rotary or oscillating valve, particularly for internal - combustion engines, comprises a cylindrical member 9 having multiple sets of ports 10, 11 and rotatably mounted in a sleeve 6 which is split at 20 and constructed so as to exert an initial contracting - force on the valve. The sleeve 6 is formed with raised valve seatings 8 around the ports 3, 4, 5 therein, which lead respectively to the inlet pipe, exhaust pipe, and cylinder. These ports and corresponding ports in the valve casing are provided with spring-pressed packing-bushes 21 fitted with packing-rings 22. The sleeve 6 may be in sections, made separate or jointed together and pressed inwards by springs. The valve may be cooled by internal circulation as described in Specification 221,246, [Class 7 (vi), Internal-combustion engines, Valves &c. for]. The invention may be applied to valves of air compressors, water pumps, &c.
