Abstract
220,344. Dicker, S. G. S., (Banner, O. A.). April 12, 1923. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-Fuel is injected immediately before the end of the compression stroke from opposite sides of a combustion chamber of the form illustrated in Fig. 1, which is approximately rectangular in plan, through inclined nozzles 8 which produce a jet of fuel corresponding very nearly in shape to the configuration of the combustion chamber. These nozzles comprise a chamber 28, Fig. 3, to which the fuel is supplied without spraying air through a valve 18, and from which it passes througn two or more converging passages 27, which terminate in a spherical recess 31 formed in the nozzle cap 26. A sharp edge 32 is formed at the junction of the spherical recess 31 and a conical portion 30 of the nozzle cap 26. The piston head may be formed with a spherical recess a, Fig. 1. The cylinder cover 4, Fig. 1, is mounted on a water-cooled ring-like member 3, wherein is formed the combustion chamber.
