Liquid-fuel furnaces.-A cusp-shaped device h is removably secured to the flue c in a position to one side of the centre line of the furnace front so that air admitted through the valves g is gradually diverted upwardly into the fuel casing d fitted with a removable air guide or cylinder i. The oil burner tube k extends through the member i, which is cut away at its lower part to admit the stream of air. The plate h may be extended to the firebrick partition that closes the mouth of the furnace. The air flows spirally around the interior of the member i and through an opening l in the brick partition. Some of the air may also flow around the exterior of the cylinder, which is perforated or slotted. For a steam boiler with multiple furnaces the wing furnaces may be fitted with cusp-shaped plates set respectively to the left-hand and right-hand sides of the furnace front.
