Abstract

216,893. Sulzer FrÞres Soc. Anon. June 1, 1923, [Convention date]. Multi-stage centrifugal pumps. - A single multi-stage pump is used for supplying the water for all purposes on a ship propelled by internal combustion engines; the pump stages and discharge branches are so arranged that the water is obtained at the pressure and in the quantities required. The pump shown has low, medium and high pressure sections 1, 2, 3 and is driven by a single motor 4. The sea water used passes through the valve 22 and filter 23 to the low pressure section 1. Part of it passes from this section through the stop cock 6 and distributing branch 7 to cool the engine cylinders and for cleaning. The other part passes through the medium pressure section 2 to supply the piston cooling device and also the suction of the high pressure section 3. The high pressure water supplied to the distributing pipe 18 is used for boiler feeding or fire extinguishing. The used water may be conveyed overboard, or into the bilge or to an installation for utilizing waste heat. A reciprocating pump 20 may be used to pump water from the bilge and discharge it overboard.
