[Also in Groups XI and XXVIII] A jet propulsion or gas turbine engine fuel system having a centrifugal pump supplying liquid fuel to a main burner is combined with an auxiliary pump of the hydraulic ram type which supplies fuel to an auxiliary burner nozzle at low idling speeds of the centrifugal pump. A centrifugal pump a discharges liquid fuel through control means e to a main burner nozzle c. A hydraulic ram pump fed with fuel through the pipe n supplies fuel at low idling speeds of the pump a to an auxiliary burner nozzle f, which may be incorporated with or arranged separately. from the main burner nozzle c. The hydraulic ram pump comprises a cylindrical chamber g housing a spring-loaded piston h. A sub-chamber m is connected to the chamber g through a spring-loaded non-return valve j and the intake of the centrifugal pump through a spring-loaded valve p. As the pressure on the pipe n falls the valve p opens and the valve closes. The resulting flow of liquid fuel along the pipe n closes the valve p and opens the valve j. Fuel then flows into the chamber g. This causes the pressure in sub-chamber m to fall and the valve p to open and the valve j to close. When is closed fuel is discharged from the chamber g to the nozzle f by the piston h.
