Abstract

128,260. Short, H. O. July 4,1917. Direct air-pressure apparatus, automatic. - Liquid fuel is raised by air pressure from a main tank 1 to another tank 7, whence it can flow to the engine of an aerial machine, and to avoid making the tank 1 heavy enough to withstand the air pressure, a small strong vessel 3 is employed which receives the fuel through a pipe 4 and non-return valve 5. The fuel is expelled from the vessel 3 by air supplied by a pump 9 through a valve 10 and pipe 8. The valve 10 is worked mechanically and puts the vessel 3 into communication alternately with the pump 9 and the top of the tank 1. The vessel 3 and the sump 15 of the tank 7 may be bullet-proof. The tank 1 may be divided into compartments each of which is separately connected to the vessel 3.
