Abstract

215,534. Tape, B. April 11, 1923. Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and pneumatic hubs and cushions.-A resilient wheel comprises an inner wheel B with pneumatic tyre C surrounded by a rigid rim member D provided with a solid tread. The member D has radial play between side plates E, F bolted to the member B, tie bolts near the peripheries of the plates passing through enlarged holes G. Normally, the play of the member D is limited by the edges of the plates E, F engaging under shoulders below the tread. In emergency the tie bolts may be removed from the holes G and passed through the holes H which they fit snugly. so as to form a rigid wheel. The holes H normally serve as grease retainers. The tyre C has corrugations I engaging corresponding recesses in the members B, D to prevent creeping. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 14744/13 and 146,985.
