Abstract

299,684. Hatfield, S. C. May 5, 1928. Spring wheels. - The flanged rim 6 of a railway wheel is formed on a ring 8 which is supported from the hub 1 by pneumatic cushions 3 having outer and inner beads 15, 16 clamped to the rim and hub members respectively. The cushions 3 are enclosed by side plates 33 bearing against the edges of the ring 8 and bolted to the hub. The outer structure comprising the cushions 3, spacerring 21, ring 8, and a loose flange 26 is carried by a split-ring 22 with a gap adapted to be engaged by a key 27 projecting from a slot in the hub. The parts are secured by bolts 25 screwed into the fixed hub-flange 32.
