Abstract

625,393. Wheels for vehicles. CAMPBELL, A. July 29, 1947, No. 20378. [Class 144 (i)] A vehicle wheel comprises two annular discs 2 joined together with their outer edges 3 rolled away from each other to the form of synclastic curves, the convex surfaces of which are joined to the inner periphery of a main rim 1 and the inner concave surfaces embrace part of the circumferences of two shockabsorbing pneumatic tyres 4 carried on two secondary rims 5 secured to the peripheries of two dished plates 6 which are connectible to a wheel hub, the annular discs 2 being disposed between the dished plates 6. Sheets of brake lining 7 may be interposed between the discs 2 and the dished plates 6. The main rim 1 may be itself formed as or arranged to receive, a trough-shaped ring to carry a pneumatic tyre 8, or a flanged steel rim. Alternatively the rim 1 may be formed as or arranged to receive a steel tyre with projecting ground-engaging spuds. The ground-engaging spuds may be arranged in two circumferential rows with a pneumatic tyre disposed between them.
