Abstract

173. Greenwell, R. Jan. 5. Spring wheels with sectional outer guided members; tyres, non-elastic, and rims.-The rim B is of channel section and has fitted over it the sectional guided members C, also of channel section. The inner edges of the members C are flanged at C<1> to fit within rings D secured by bolts passing through the rim and through radial slots in the members C. The ends of the tyre members rest on curved plates F having flanged side pins Fl moving in radial slots in the rim and the members C, which are supported on springs compressed by plates J held on seats in the rim by lock-nuts on the radial rods H. The tyre may be of rubber and may be continuous or in sections dovetailed together as shown in Fig. 1. Or, as shown in Fig. 4, the outer periphery of the members C may be curved to provide a tread surface 0, which is perforated to allow the rubber filling to protrude. In this case, a plate P is placed between the spring and the rubber. The rim may have a wood or other filling R, Fig. 3.
