Abstract
26,973. Horstmann, S. A., and Lister, C. A. Dec. 2. [Cognate Application 1974/12.] Spring wheels with a solid rubber tyre held between two rings transversely movable to give resiliency.-A solid rubber tyre is held between two transverselymovable rings which compress or stretch the tyre to provide resiliency. The invention may be applied to the wheels described in Specifications 5609/10, 30,012/10, 30,309/10, 8213/11, and 16,971/11 in which transverselybending spring spokes are connected to the rim by links. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the rings R supporting the tyre 3 are secured to side flanges 20. Brackets 7, adjustable or not, are arranged at each side of the inner rim 4 and connected to the flanges by any of the links described in the before-mentioned Specifications. As shown, each link may consist of two rods 8, Fig. 4, secured to cups 9 with perpendicular grooves, which engage ribs on convex bosses 12. Fig. 6 shows a cup 9 with a bed of rubber 9<a>. The links may extend alternately from each side of a central rib on the inner rim. The flanges may be replaced by lugs or brackets fixed to the rings. Fig. 13 shows a link in the form of a stirrup embracing the rim and lying radially. Fig. 12 shows an arrangement of balls and cups which may be fitted so as to bring together or separate the rings R and compress or stretch the tyre. Fig. 14 shows the application to the wheels described in the Specifications referred to above. The spokes 30 are arranged alternately near each side of the rim.
