Abstract

5034. Shanklin, E. S. Feb. 28. Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and pneumatic and like cushions.-A pneumatic cushion 6, Fig. 2, with inner and outer flat headed surfaces 9, is secured to an inner.rigid rim 5 by a detachable flange, and to an outer rigid rim 12 by a pair of shaped plates 7 which grip the outer beadings. The plates are inwardly curved at their edges 15 to grip an elastic tread 13, and their inner portions are guided between flanges 20, 21, secured to the hub, and disks 3, Fig. 1, secured around the sides of the spokes. The plates 7 are stayed by bolts 25 passing through apertures 26 in the disks. Packing is interposed between the sliding parts. The cushion is formed with non-creeping projections 28, 30, engaging recesses in the rims. The spokes may be replaced by a disk.
