Abstract

214,422. White, W. A. March 22, 1923. Spray burners.-In a liquid-fuel furnace front of the kind described in Specifications 167,697, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of], and 176,028, a number of adjustably controllable subsidiary air inlets 3<a> are provided near the base of the conical front wall 1, directly and severally opposite to air passages formed by helical vanes 24<a> in the annular chamber between the inversely conical rear walls of the casing 4b and air deflector 20<a>. The inlet ports 3<a> are controlled by a rotary sleeve valve 30 provided with ports 30a and actuated by a rack 34, pinion 35, and hand-wheel 36. The vanes 24<a> direct the air streams from the inlets 3<a> so that they meet the fuel spray at a tangent, while air passages 33 are provided in the bearing- surface of the vapour deflector 31 around the circumference of the burner jacket 2.
