Abstract
627,109. Liquid fuel burners. EUREKA WILLIAMS CORPORATION. April 10, 1947, No. 9562. Convention date, April 27, 1946. [Class 75(i)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] Secondary air for a liquid fuel burner is supplied by a draft pipe which has an inlet through which air is induced by means of a jet of air discharged into the draft pipe. An air-jet nozzle 38 supplied under pressure i s mounted on a spider in the open end of a pipe 32 and induces a flow of air through a port 36 into a Venturi throat 34 on the end of the pipe, the flow of air being regulated by a valve member 46 threaded on the hub of the spider and co-operating with the port 36. The other end of the pipe 32 is connected to a scroll 30 which supplies the air tangentially to a pipe 10 surrounding the burner nozzle 14. The burner nozzle 14 is supplied with liquid fuel from a positive displacement type of metering pump fed by a gear pump and with primary air under pressure from a sliding vane type rotary pump which also supplies the air-jet nozzle 38. The primary air is supplied to the nozzle through a pipe 26 surrounding part of the oil pipe 24. The mixture of oil and air from the burner nozzle 14 is ignited by electrodes 16 and burns within a cylindrical muffle 12 projecting into a combustion chamber and provided with spaced apertured baffles 20 which serve to radiate heat back to the mixture. An air cone 22 may be associated with the end of the draft pipe 10 to direct the secondary air into the mixture of oil and air from the nozzle 14.
