Abstract
213,752. Knowles, J. T., (Standard Development Co.). March 13, 1923. Spray carburettors.-Apparatus for supplying an anti-detonating agent and reducing the supply of low-compression fuel comprises valves I, J which are connected to a bellows K responsive against an adjustable spring i to changes of suction in the induction pipe A which are conveyed by a pipe l. The valves shown are throttle valves of independent carburettors: they may be adjusted bv a turnbuckle h so that the anti-detonating mixture valve J is closed when the main throttle B is almost closed and the engine is running slowly. The valves may, however, be needle valves in the fuel nozzles and the bellows may have parallel arms on which a spring may be adjusted to vary the leverage; a suction-actuated extra air valve may also be provided. The anti-detonating agent may be alcohol or cyclic compounds or fuel containing amine compounds or iodine.
