Abstract

211,813. Gabell, C. D. Oct. 20, 1923. Bottling. - A filling nozzle of the kind in which the filling operation ceases when the liquid in the bottle &c. reaches the level of an air escape tube comprises a continuous delivery tube 1 extending above the surface of the liquid in a delivery tank 8 and formed with passages 2, 3 for liquid and air, the former being provided with an inlet port 10 adapted to be opened by pressing a bottle upwards against a spring - pressed collar 11 secured to the tube 1. Normally the port 10 is closed by a tube 9 depending from the tank 8, a tight joint being made between the tube 1 and the tank by a washer 7 secured to a sleeve 5 surrounding the part of the tube 1 within the tank and secured to it by a pin 16 which is hinged to a loop 17 adapted to encircle the tube to prevent withdrawal of the pin. The passages 2, 3 may be formed by inserting a closely fitting tube into the tube 1 and deforming it to form the passage 3, the liquid passage extending below the air passage to prevent liquid from being drawn up the air passage.
