Abstract

304,489. Foy, T. Feb. 3, 1928. Filling with liquids. -Relates to apparatus for filling or returning liquid to casks, while the contents are maintained under pressure for withdrawal, and comprises a spigot having a passage communicating w i t h delivery orifices 16, a pressure pipe connection 6 and a separate liquid return pipe connection 11 both communicating with the hollow interior of the spigot, and a valve 9 for closing the return pipe 11 when pressure is supplied through the pipe 7. The apertures 16 are inclined upwardly to deliver liquid in an outward and upward direction. A vent pipe 13 extends through the spigot and is connected to a valve controlled air outlet pipe 14. A vessel with an air-tight cover is connected to the pipe 11 from which liquid is forced under pressure into the cask. The device may be used for drawing off the muddier portions of the contents of a cask and returning the clarified liquid thereto without relieving the pressure therein.
