Abstract

211,416. Blackstone, G. M., Carter, F., and Carter, E. Aug. 29, 1923. Spray carburettors; vaporizers, external. -An engine of the type described in Specifications 24611/03 and 6672/08 in which the main portion of the air is admitted to the cylinder through a separate valve, and the remaining portion, after being carburetted by fuel issuing from a nozzle, is sucked through a vaporizer at each suction stroke, is improved by upturning the extreme end of the pipe through which the latter air is admitted, so that any fuel dropped at the nozzle may not run out. As shown air enters the upturned end j<1> of a pipe having a fuel nozzle k, a choke n, and a water-valve l similar to that described in Specification 6672/08. The end j is preferably surrounded by one or more annular or scroll shaped ducts m. Air enters at m<4> and after circulating in the passage m<3>, passes to a passage m<1> where it circulates in the opposite direction before passing down the pipe j.
