Abstract

209,375. Declaye, J. March 23, 1923. Breech actions, drop-down barrel.-Ejector mechanism of the kind comprising a sliding hammer and a helical spring mounted in a detachable box is provided, in addition to the sear for controlling the ejection, with a spring catch adapted to retain the hammer when the box is removed from the gun. As shown, the catch comprises a spring blade 7 normally engaging the hammer 3 by means of a shoulder 8, Fig. 4, and holding it in the cocked position. The free end 6 of the blade engages an abutment 9 on the breech-body so that the blade is raised to release the hammer when the gun is opened, the ejector sear then being able to function in the usual way. A second shoulder 11, Fig. 4, on the blade forms a stop for the hammer at the end of its stroke. The hammer is guided in the box 1 by a rib on the hammer engaging a groove 17, Fig. 5, in the box. In the case of a double-barrelled gun, one of the hammers is formed with a longitudinal rib 18 bearing against the other hammer to reduce friction. The invention is shown applied to the ejector mechanism described in Specification 207,462.
