Gas, supplying by meter; coin action, mechanical connection.- In prepayment mechanism for gas meters, the coin carrier a comprises a short shaft d having a slot e and two cheeks f between which is pivoted at n a supplementary carrier g having a curved portion j to receive a coin, an upright i formed with a tooth m, a projection k engaging the slot e and an extending finger l. The shaft d is loosely mounted in the hub of a quantity wheel t and in the operating handle b, which moves independently thereof and carries a cam disc u provided with an upstanding rim v slotted at w to allow a coin to be inserted into the carrier. When the handle b is rotated, a bevelled portion x of the rim v adjacent the slot w acts on the coin and rocks the supplementary carrier g against the eaction of a spring p to cause the tooth m to engage the quantity wheel t. A spring-pressed pawl 2 pivoted on the disc u over-rides the finger l which is raised and prevents return of the operating handle b. A cam y on the rim v then lifts a latch g pivoted to the carrier a and acted on by the spring p, over a stop 8 on a. price-change disc c thus allowing the carrier to be rotated by a pin z on the rim v. After discharge of the coin the carrier is returned to its position against a stop 6 on the price-change disc by a pin 1 on the disc u. The mechanism is used in conjunction with the measuring-out mechanism 16 described in Specifications 183,157 and 206,553 provided with the indicator described in Specification 205,162.
