Coin action, mechanical connection; coin-slit closing-devices.- In prepayment mechanism for gas meters of the kind having a price-changing disc which does not rotate with the coin carrier, the coin carrier r, Figs. 3 and 5, is loosely mounted between two sets of cams i, j on a shaft e turned by a handle f, the shaft having a bearing, in a quantity wheel v and in a price-changing disc a. The coin is inserted through a slot h in a guard slate g fixed to the shaft e outside the price-changer a, and through a slot c in the price-changer, into the coin carrier which has pivoted at t a subsidiary carrier s provided with a projecting tooth u. On turning the handle, the plate g closes the slot c, a cam surface l on the cam j forces the coin forward to engage the tooth u of the carrier s with the quantity wheel v, and then a projection o on the cam i rotates the carrier r. A ring d fixed to the back of the price-changer and gapped at the slot c holds the coin in its forward position. A spring controlled latch m pivoted to the cam j prevents retraction of the coin. The carrier is returned to coin receiving position against a stop 7 by a second projection p on the cam i, a snail q between the projections o, p disengaging the tooth u from the wheel v. A pawl y prevents backward rotation of the wheel v and a second pawl z prevents return of the carrier before the coin is discharged. Price-charging mechanism.-The price-changer a is held in adjusted position by a fork on the casing engaging two of a series of peripheral notches and by a flanged ring 2 hinged at 3 and secured by a screw 4. The markings on the price-changer are visible through a hole in the flange of the ring.
