[Class 27] In prepayment meter mechanism in order to prevent the quantity wheel from moving by inertia or by slipping through a larger or smaller angle than that corresponding to the amount of prepayment, it is automatically locked in correct position concurrently with the discharge of the coin from the rotary coin receiver and before it is disengaged from the receiver. The quantity-wheel 2, Fig. 1, is carried by a spindle 4 having wheels 5 gearing with the usual measuring-out mechanism, and having a forward extension 9 provided with a groove 10. The spindle 4 is capable of slight longitudinal movement and is normally held by a spring 6 with peripheral ratchet teeth on the wheel 2 in engagement with a fixed locking stop 8. When a coin is inserted into a coin receiver rotatable in a coin drum 3 it enters a pocket formed by plates 16 disposed between end plates 12, 13 and depresses a pivoted lever 17. Claws 20 on this lever engage the groove 10 and move the wheel 2 out of engagement with the stop 8 and into engagement with a tooth 22 mounted on the rear plate 12, the wheel engaging the tooth 22 before being released from the stop 8. A spring 21 connects the lever 17 and tooth 22 and allows a slight movement of the tooth to enable it to position itself in engaging relation with the wheel 2. After rotation of the receiver, a stop 24 thereon meets a fixed stop 25 and the coin is discharged by the lever 17 through a slot 23 in the drum 3.
