Abstract
455,215. Counting - apparatus. VEEDER-ROOT, Inc., Sargeant Street, Hartford, Connecticut, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Spaunburg, H. L.) March 12, 1935, No. 7737. Convention date, March 21, 1934. [Class 106 (i)] A counting-mechanism particularly for use with a loom for counting the picks comprises a plurality of counter units and a resetting mechanism with a common locking means to permit a resetting or zeroizing operation on any selected unit, the locking means included a key-lock and member co-operating therewith and with a member rotatable with theshaft of the resetting mechanism. Means are provided to prevent removal of the key of the lock after initiation of the resetting operation and to prevent reverse operation of the resetting mechanism. In the form shown in Figs. 2 to 5, two counters for day and night shifts respectively are mounted on parallel shafts 20 journalled in a casing 1 and are actuated by a drive member 5 and clutch mechanism (not shown), adjustable by a control member 6. Each counter comprises three number units with Geneva-type transfer mechanism. Each unit includes a numeral drum 12 secured to a sleeve 13, Figs. 7, and 8, loose on the shaft 20. To the sleeve is also secured a locking disc 14 and a transfer tooth disc 15. Within the disc 14 is mounted a reset pawl 16, Fig. 14, controlled by a spring to press the pawl through an aperture in the sleeve ready to engage a slot 19 in the shaft. On the side of the drum 12 opposite to the disc 14 is a gear wheel 21 rotatably mounted on the sleeve and having spring pressed pawls 22 to co-operate with a ratchet member 23 disposed in a recess of the drum. Secured to each shaft 20 is a locking member 26 with a reduced portion 29 formed with a flat surface 30. The portions 29 pass through similarly shaped apertures in a locking bar 32 which extends transversely of the two shafts and co-operates with a cam 39 connected to the barrel 40 of a lock 8. In the locked position shown in Fig. 3 the key 9 can be readily inserted and withdrawn ; when the key is moved to the unlocking position Fig. 2 the reset mechanism operating member 7 is then free to be turned to effect the zeroizing while the locking bar 32 is displaced to prevent the cam 39 being returned so that the key is held against withdrawal until the zeroizing operation is completed. To prevent reverse rotation of either of the operating members 7 each of the parts 29 is formed with a ratchet member 43 with a number of teeth 48 adapted to co-operate with a corresponding spring pawl 49. Fraudulent advance of the numeral drums is prevented by disposing the flat surfaces 30 of the locking members 26 with respect to the slot 19 of the shafts 20 so that the pawls 16 are normally out of contact with either wall of the slot as shown in Fig. 14.
