[Also in Group XVIII] Apparatus for dispensing lengths of paper from a roll rotatably supported in a casing comprises a pinion 49, on one of two co-acting rollers for drawing paper from the roll, meshing with a gear wheel 46 on a handle shaft 44 to which are also secured a cam 48 and ratchet disc 47, a detent 55 on a pivoted lever 52 being engageable by the ratchet disc 47 when turned clockwise to displace the lever 52 and disengage a stop 65 thereon from the cam 48, thus freeing the shaft 44 for anticlockwise rotation through a single revolution, while a pivoted arm 59 holds the lever 52 inoperative until the arm 59 is engaged by the cam 48 and caused to release the lever 52 for re-locking the cam 48. In a coin-freed modification, Fig. 8, an inserted coin falling onto a platform 69 rocks a lever 67 to move a stop 72 free from the cam 48 so that the handle 45 can be turned to dispense a predetermined length of paper. When the coin slides off the platform 69 it rises until a part 76 thereof interengages with a part 75 of an arm 73 thus maintaining the stop 72 free of the cam 48 until the cam 48 acts on the arm 73 to unlock the lever 67 which rocks back to initial position against a fixed stop 71. A detent 77 on the arm 73 engages the ratchet disc 47 to prevent reverse rotation of the handle 45.
