531,294. Coin-feed apparatus. SOPER, H. N., and UNIVERSAL POSTAL FRANKERS, Ltd. July 17, 1939, No. 20733. [Class 27] Ticket printing and like apparatus; coin action, weight.-A coin-freed mechanism for imparting a pre-determined degree of rotation to a wheel under the action of one or more inserted coins comprises a ratchet wheel 5 mounted on the shaft 4 of the wheel 1, here shown as a printing wheel. The wheel 5 is advanced by a pawl 6 hanging from the end of a lever 7 pivoted at 8 to a supporting frame 3. The lever 7 extends through slots 9, 10 in coin shoots 11, 12 located so as to impart different degrees of swing to the lever 7 and hence different extents of rotation to the wheel 1. A pin 13 keeps the pawl 6 normally off the wheel 5, but allows engagement of these parts as soon as the pawl rises. A detent 16 prevents backlash, and is automatically disengaged at the end of the operation for the return to zero position of the wheel 1 by means such as a hair spring or a weighted rack meshing with a pinion on shaft 4. Abutting projections locate the wheel 1 in zero position.
