Sliding - jaw wrenches; handles.-In a wrench of the type wherein a movable jaw member freely slidable along the shank of the fixed jaw is held in position by a nut external to the movable jaw, tha slide carrying the latter is formed with outwardly extending flanges adapted to be engaged by the thumb of the user so that the slide can be reciprocated whilst grasping the shank of tha wrench. The member 16 carrying the movable jaw 18 slides along the shank 10 carrying the fixed jaw 12 and is formed at the bottom with a circular flange 17 adapted to bear against a nut 22 engaging arcuate teeth 15 along the shank 10. The teeth of the nut are so formed that it may be moved' rapidly along the shank by a single spin. As shown in Fig. 5 the movable jaw 18 has a transverse circular aperture 19 containing a shoe 20 urged by a spring 21 into frictional engagement with the edge of the shank, whereby the movable jaw member is held temporarily in adjusted position until secured by turning the nut 22 to engage the flange 17. Flanges such as 24, grooved at 26 are provided on the slide 16 so that it may be adjusted easily with the thumb. The shank teeth 15 are upset at 23 to prevent detachment of the nut, and the handle 13 terminates in a hole 14 so that the wrench may be hung upon a nail when not in use.
