Abstract

281,870. Jacobs, C. J. Dec. 8, 1926. Wrenches.-A spanner for holding one portion of an object such as a valve tappet so that the hands of the operator are left free to manipulate another portion of the object comprises a head portion adapted to grip the member to be held, and a tool portion connected to the head portion by a shank and adapted to engage with any suitable support. The device shown in Fig. 1 comprises jaws a for engaging the tappet body b and a tail portion e with feet d at the end of the shank c adapted to bear, against a suitable support such as the wall of the oil trough. The tail portion may have a flange fitted with an adjustment screw, and the shank may be extensible. Another construction of the device shown in Fig. 2 is adapted for use when there, is no support against which the tail part could engage and consists of a body portion g with jaws h adapted to engage adjacent tappets.
