Abstract

197,136. MacDonald, D. March 21, 1922. Hand grip and sliding jaw wrenches; tack extractors.- Wrenches, pliers, and like hand-operated gripping tools comprise a fixed jaw 1 carried by a shank 2 and a movable jaw 5 slidably adjustable on the shank by means of a gripping lever 10 pivoted to the jaw 5 and provided on its inner side with a pivoted lever 8 carrying a worm 7 meshing with teeth 16 on the shank. For quick adjustment the worm 7 is released against the action of a spring 9, angular movement of the lever 10 being limited by a stop-pin 15 and sliding movement of the jaw 5 by a shoulder 22. Fixed or removable cutting blades 17, 18 are, mounted in the jaws which are recessed to receive them, a reinforcing shoulder 21 being provided on the jaw 1. The edges 25 of the jaws may be provided with tack-extracting recesses, and the end 28 of the shank may be formed as a tyre lever. The sliding jaw is constituted by a U-shaped sheet metal piece with a filling-piece secured therein by rivets.
