Abstract

Producers.-In obtaining gas from two producers and a superheater the latter is heated by the waste gases during the blasting up period and the water gas generated in one producer is passed through the superheater and then up through the second producer which is charged with green fuel on top of the heated coke bed. The producers a, a<1> and the superheater bare connected by conduits and valves so arranged as to permit of the passage of gases in either direction through each of the units. Air from a main k is passed up through a producer a and the blast gases are admitted at the bottom of the superheater b and escape through an outlet q. Steam is then passed from a pipe n through producer a and the water-gas is led to the upper part of the superheater and after being heated is passed by a pipe d into the lower part of the producer a' rising through the coke and distilling the green fuel at'the top of the fuel bed, the resulting gases giving a high yield of low-temperature tar. Air may be supplied to the second producer to maintain the temperature therein, and the gases may be carburetted by the addition of oil through a pipe r to the superheater. Steam may be generated in the superheater for use in the process by supplying water through a pipe s. The various valves may be so coupled or combined that a change in the working may be effected by the operation of one single element.
