Abstract

221,622. Humphreys & Glasgow, Ltd., (Evans, 0. B., Perry, J. A., and Eichengreen, L. B.). Aug. 3, 1923. Producers.-Heavy oils or residuums are gasified in a water-gas generator 1 by heating the upper outer edge of the fuel bed 4 during the blasting period by the combustion of an admixture of producer gas, generated by a primary air blast 5 at the bottom of the fuel bed, and of secondary air, supplied through the pipe 2, which is positioned below the top 3 of the fuel bed 4, and spraying the heavy oil during the runs on to said heated edge. The oil is preferably sprayed on to the heated zone by means of a nozzle 8. During the run, steam is admitted through a pipe 11.
