Abstract

203,846. Dodd, H. Stansfield-. July 22, 1922. Electric hand-irons; handles.-In the hollow handle 1 is mounted a slidable member 12, and a lever 10 is pivoted on the outside of the handle. On grasping the handle, the lever 10 also is grasped and the link 17 so moves the member 12 inwards against a spring 13 to actuate spring toggle levers 22, 34 which snap the switch block 26 from its off position into contact with the blocks 40 set in the block 41, and to close the circuit. The spring 13 ensures the breaking of the toggle and the consequent opening of the circuit when the handle is released. The sliding member 12 projects sufficiently far from the housing 50 to enable the circuit to be completed merely by standing the iron on end, whereupon the member 12 is caused to slide into the handle.
