Abstract

180,525. Berry, H. H., and Markham, W. J. April 21, 1921. Electric hand-irons are provided with a spring- operated switch controlled by a lever 1 adapted to be grasped with the handle. The switch is held closed by a trip device which is released by the weight of the lever when this is liberated but is not released when the iron is placed on end. The plug switch 6 is carried by a pair of arms 5 pivoted at 3 and under the action of a spring 15 tending to raise the switch. The lever 1 weighted at 2 is provided with an arm 13 adapted when the lever is released to engage and break the toggle formed bv a pair of links a, b, which when straightened by the ascent of the lever serve as a trip normally holding the switch closed. When the iron is placed on end, the lever does not bear against the trip and consequently the switch remains closed.
