Abstract

Switches, quick-action; retractive switches. - A switch, constructed to open and close with a quick action, comprises a contact 12 mounted on a lever 11 toggle-jointed at 10<a> to a lever 10, which is pivoted at 9 to side-pieces 8<a> on the base. The lever 10 is actuated by a spindle 14, having a wing- nut handle 14a and an extension 15<a> engaging a surface 10<c> of the lever 10. A spring 13 moving across the deadcentre produces a quick closure and holds the switch closed so long as the lever 10 is maintained in the position shown in Fig. 3. Release of the wing-nut 14<a> allows the spring 13 to pull the toggle down, the contact 12 sliding over the fixed contact 7 until it meets the turned-out part 7<a>. This results in the switch being rapidly opened by impelling the lever 11 back across the dead centre to the position shown in Fig. 2. Specification 183,839 is referred to.
