Abstract
233,094. Mudie, A. B. March 10, 1924. Automatic circuit-breakers etc.; switches, actuating; latching. - In an automatic circuitbreaker, the operating lever of the switch is associated wtih an actuating disc having two notches in its periphery and a connection with the switch arm or with mechanism controlling it. A separate connection between the lever and disc is formed by an operating catch which engages one of the notches, while a releaseable retaining catch engages the other notch for holding the switch closed, the operating catch disengaging the retaining catch from its notch on a releasing movement of the operating lever. The forked handle 15 is pivoted at 5 and carries a catch 9 the forked part of which carries a pin or roller 19 adapted to engage a notch 8 in an actuating disc 4 to close the switch. The disc is connected by a pair of links 12 to the switch arm and has a notch 10 adapted to be engaged by a catch 11 to hold the switch closed. At or near the closed position the tail 20 of the catch 9 overlaps the tail 24 of the catch 11, so that operation of the automatic release 26 engages the tail 20 which engages the pin 25 to remove the latch 11 from the notch 10 and open the switch. Reverse movement of the handle 15 when the switch is closed will open the switch owing to the curvature of the tail 20, which engages the pin 25, and to the movement of the pin 19 out of the, notch 8. If during closure the release 26 operates before the catch 11 engages the disc, it will engage the tail 20 and so free the disc and allow the switch to open, the opening movement being limited by the links 12 engaging the boss 7 on the disc. The disc may be fixed on the switch-arm spindle and operated thereby, or the disc may operate a number of switches.
